Nigeria: Dangote Refinery Cuts Petrol, Diesel Prices
Dangote Refinery has reduced petrol and diesel prices significantly following a slump in global oil prices.
Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has announced substantial reductions in the prices of petrol and diesel in Nigeria following a recent decline in global oil prices, which dropped to $90 per barrel from $115. The new pricing template reveals that the gantry price of petrol has decreased from N1,175 to N1,075 per litre, while the coastal supply price is set at N1,050 per litre. This adjustment indicates a direct response to changing market conditions affecting oil prices, impacting the cost to consumers.
Additionally, the price for Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) has also been revised downwards, falling to N1,430 per litre at the gantry, a reduction from the previous N1,620 per litre. The reduction of N190 for diesel indicates a broader strategy by Dangote Refinery to align operational costs with fluctuating global market prices. It is important to note that these prices are preliminary and do not take into account additional regulatory charges from Nigeriaβs Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), which might affect final consumer costs.
This price cut is significant as it reflects the ongoing volatility in the oil market and its direct impact on local fuel prices in Nigeria. Reducing fuel costs can positively influence various sectors of the economy, particularly transportation and logistics, and potentially ease the economic pressures faced by consumers amidst rising inflation. However, how these changes will affect market dynamics in the long term remains to be seen, especially in the context of regulatory frameworks and global oil price trends.
