ATM Jamming with Fevikwik: Thug Gang Exposed in Agra
The Agra Cyber Crime Police have successfully uncovered an inter-state gang using a clever ATM card swapping scam, involving jamming machines and stealing cash from unsuspecting victims.
The Agra Cyber Crime Police achieved a significant breakthrough in combating financial fraud by exposing an inter-state gang that was adept at swapping ATM cards to steal money. The police arrested three notorious suspects near the Fatehabad toll, who were found in possession of 153 ATM cards, cash amounting to ₹106,500, three mobile phones, and the vehicle used in their criminal activities. This operation not only highlights the efficacy of law enforcement but also emphasizes the need for greater vigilance among ATM users.
Investigations revealed that the gang employed a cunning tactic involving Fevikwik (a popular adhesive) to jam ATM card slots. The perpetrators would block the slot and wait for an unsuspecting victim to attempt a transaction, during which they would observe the ATM PIN. By posing as helpful strangers, they would secretly swap the victim's real card with a counterfeit one. Once they successfully replaced the card, they would then access the victim's accounts and siphon off considerable sums of money.
The police reported that this gang operated across various states, including Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh, executing their scams in over 35 districts of Uttar Pradesh alone. The implications of this criminal activity are far-reaching, prompting law enforcement agencies to enhance security measures at ATMs and increase public awareness about such fraudulent practices. As more individuals fall prey to sophisticated scams, the partnership between the police and the community becomes vital in combating financial crimes effectively.
