Resident of the interior of SP turns 115 and has a party with cake, sparkles in her hair, and municipal tribute
A 115-year-old resident of São Pedro, Brazil, celebrated her birthday with a cake, hair decorations, and a municipal honor at a nursing home.
Dona Maria da Paz Ribeiro, affectionately known as Voinha, celebrated her remarkable 115th birthday in São Pedro, São Paulo. The event took place at the nursing home where she has resided for the past nine years, attended by fellow residents and staff who gathered to honor her incredible longevity. Born on March 10, 1911, in Boa Vista, Bahia, Voinha spent many of her years working on a farm and raised her children in the Piracicaba area after moving there approximately 20 years ago.
The birthday celebration featured her favorite dessert, a sweet cake made with milk and plums, along with a special touch from a hairstylist who adorned her hair with sparkles, making her feel like a queen on her special day. The local community held a ceremony to bestow upon her the title of 'São Pedro citizen,' recognizing her contributions and role within the community. Voinha expressed her joy as she celebrated this milestone, surrounded by those she has come to regard as family during her time in the nursing home.
This event signifies not only a personal milestone for Voinha but also highlights the importance of respecting and celebrating the elderly within Brazilian culture. As the population ages, stories like Voinha’s serve as reminders of the rich histories and life experiences that older generations carry, fostering greater appreciation and connection between the young and old in society.
