President Yoon gifts 'Ghana Chocolate' to Ghanaian President
President Yoon presented specially crafted 'Ghana Chocolate' as a gift to Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama during his visit to Korea.
South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol welcomed Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama on his visit to Korea by presenting him with a unique gift of 'Ghana Chocolate'. This chocolate, customized with the flags of both countries and Mahama's name, highlights the importance of Ghana as a source of cacao beans for producing chocolate. During the meeting, a spokesperson from the Blue House emphasized how essential cocoa from Ghana is to the chocolate industry, noting that over 80% of the cacao used in these chocolates is sourced from Ghana, which is known for its high-quality beans.
Additionally, this gift gained personal significance for President Yoon, who recalled a past moment when he was inspired by a pack of Ghana Chocolate given to him by a child during his hunger strike in defense of democracy as the leader of the opposition. The Blue House also mentioned that alongside the chocolate, other gifts were presented, including a Galaxy S26 Ultra smartphone, symbolizing Korea's commitment to partnering with Ghana in nurturing its manufacturing sector. Another gift, a traditional Korean painting illustrating naval training, was given as a nod to the symbolic importance of the ship-naming ceremony that was part of Mahama's visit.
This meeting and the gifts exchanged reflect the strengthening ties between South Korea and Ghana, illustrating South Korea's interest in collaborating closely with African nations for mutual development, especially in areas such as technology and manufacturing.
