Aruna suffers eighth straight WTT series defeat
Nigerian table tennis player Quadri Aruna has faced his eighth consecutive loss in the WTT series after being defeated by France's Félix Lebrun in straight sets.
Nigerian table tennis star Quadri Aruna continues to struggle in the World Table Tennis (WTT) series, suffering his eighth consecutive defeat. During a recent match at the WTT Champions Chongqing event in China, Aruna lost in straight sets to French player Félix Lebrun, with scores of 11–5, 11–6, and 11–3. This defeat extends Aruna’s winless streak in the WTT series for the current year and marks a challenging period for the athlete, reflecting his ongoing difficulties to secure a victory despite his established reputation in the sport.
This particular match took place in the round of 32 and was the fourth time the two competitors faced each other. Before the match, Aruna had only secured one victory against Lebrun, which came in January 2023 during the WTT Contender Durban in South Africa, showcasing the competitive nature between the two players. However, Aruna's ability to perform against Lebrun has diminished, as evidenced by their encounters in 2024, which further highlight the challenges he faces in maintaining consistency and form on the international table tennis circuit.
With this latest defeat, Aruna is left seeking his first win in the WTT series since September 2025, when he triumphed over China’s Huang Youzheng in the round of 16. As he continues to grapple with his performance and results moving forward, it raises concerns about his readiness and strategy in future tournaments, prompting speculation about potential adjustments he may need to make to reclaim his footing in the competitive landscape of table tennis.
