Rio Preto resumes in-person sales of blue area tickets after 8 months restricted to kiosks and apps
After eight months of limiting parking ticket sales in São José do Rio Preto to kiosks and applications, officials have restored in-person ticket sales.
In São José do Rio Preto, Brazil, the municipal authorities have announced the resumption of in-person sales of blue area parking tickets after an eight-month period in which sales were restricted to kiosks and a mobile application. This change aims to facilitate access for drivers and expand payment options, as the in-person sales will only accept credit, debit, and Pix payments, excluding cash. In contrast, cash payments remain available at booths and parking meters.
The suspension of in-person ticket sales, initiated in July 2025, was met with user complaints regarding dysfunctions and inefficiencies in the system, leading to significant inconvenience among residents seeking to purchase parking permits. The decision to allow in-person sales again comes after these issues were widely reported, reflecting the city's responsiveness to citizen grievances regarding the parking management system.
The Municipal Urbanism Company of São José do Rio Preto (Emub), responsible for the management of the city's parking operations, has deployed five monitors to supervise and sell these tickets in the city's central area. This move not only aims to alleviate the reported frustrations of drivers but also suggests a shift towards more flexible urban parking solutions that cater to the broader needs of the community during a period of increased urban mobility demands.
