Brother Constâncio Fongaro, the oldest monk of the Abbey of Santa Cruz in Itaporanga, São Paulo, has died at the age of 94. Born on September 19, 1931, he entered the monastery at 34 after earning a degree in Industrial Engineering with a focus on Chemistry. His monastic journey spanned nearly six decades, during which he devoted much of his time to the financial administration of the monastery. The monk's solemn vestition took place on December 11, 1966, and he made his religious profession on February 2, 1969. Brother Constâncio's long service to the monastery was characterized by his commitment to maintaining the organization and financial stability of the monastic community, contributing significantly to its endeavors over the years. His burial occurred on Monday, September 9, following a requiem mass celebrated at the abbey church.
