Electronic cigarettes and tirzepatide vials sent by mail are seized in Unaí

The police in Minas Gerais seized 175 electronic cigarettes and 36 vials of tirzepatide that were sent to a resident of Unaí through the mail.

The Civil Police of Minas Gerais (PCMG) conducted a successful operation resulting in the seizure of 175 electronic cigarettes and 36 vials of tirzepatide, which were intercepted during a mail delivery to a resident of Unaí on Tuesday. This action followed intelligence reports from the Postal Service suggesting the package contained potentially illegal items destined for a location in the city center. The police executed a plan to apprehend the delivery at the moment it was to be handed over to the recipient.

Upon investigating the delivery, the police found that the package was intended for an employee of a local beauty salon. However, as the intended recipient was not present, a colleague received the package instead. After being informed of the situation, the colleague consented to the opening of the package, leading to the discovery and seizure of the electronic cigarettes, which are illegal to sell in Brazil, and the tirzepatide vials. The case prompted further inquiries into the origins of the package and its sender.

Authorities have indicated that the sender, believed to be a resident of São Paulo, has previously been linked to similar illegal activities, suggesting a potential organized approach to smuggling banned items through the postal system. This incident raises concerns about the ongoing challenge of regulating controlled substances and the sale of electronic cigarettes in the country, as well as the involvement of postal services in inadvertently facilitating such exchanges.
