Alvia 2384 crashed in Adamuz activated the brakes but collided six seconds later with the Iryo without the driver being able to do anything

The report reveals that the Iryo train experienced derailment symptoms right before colliding with the Alvia train, leading to one of Spain's deadliest rail accidents.

On January 18th, a tragic rail accident occurred in Adamuz, Córdoba, resulting in the deaths of 47 individuals, making it the deadliest incident on Spain's high-speed rail network since its liberalization. The collision involved the Iryo train 6189, which derailed, and the Alvia train 2384, which crashed into it shortly thereafter. Investigations reveal that only fifteen seconds elapsed between the first signs of the Iryo train's derailment and the collision. The black boxes from both trains suggest that despite activating the brakes, the Alvia was unable to prevent the crash due to the minuscule amount of time available to react.
