VIDEO: The area of Sužos is flooded

Residents in Sužos are facing increasing floodwaters as drainage systems fail to function during heavy rainfalls.

In Sužos, located by the coast of Lake Ķīšezer, residents are experiencing rising water levels that have led to flooding in their backyards, as reported by 'Bez Tabu.' The locals express frustration over the ineffective drainage canals in the area, which they believe have not been performing their intended function, especially during periods of heavy rainfall. Many residents have repeatedly reported this issue to the municipality in hopes of finding a solution.

Former Garkalne parish administrator Lauris Lielbārdis mentioned that residents have taken matters into their own hands by filling in drainage ditches, leading to exacerbated flooding issues. The local government, Ropažu municipality, has approached the Riga City Council, requesting the installation of a floodgate at Lake Ķīšezer to help manage the situation. However, they claim they have not received a proper response regarding these concerns, leaving residents in a precarious situation.

In response to these flooding issues, Riga City officials state that a floodgate has been installed, arguing that the true problem lies within the uncleaned ditches and drainage areas. This ongoing dispute between residents and local authorities highlights the critical need for effective drainage solutions to prevent further flooding and protect the community from potential property damage.
