Paraíba Legislative Assembly approves new councilors of the State Court of Accounts

The Paraíba Legislative Assembly has approved two new councilors for the State Court of Accounts, following a secret ballot.

On October 10, the Paraíba Legislative Assembly (ALPB) approved the appointment of two new councilors to the State Court of Accounts (TCE-PB): Deusdete Queiroga, the state secretary of infrastructure and water resources, and state deputy Taciano Diniz. Diniz's appointment fills the vacancy left by the retirement of councilor Fernando Catão, while Queiroga takes the seat previously held by Nominando Diniz. Both positions are lifelong appointments.

The nominations went through a preliminary approval process in the Commission of Constitution and Justice (CCJ) of the ALPB on October 9, before being subjected to a secret vote in the plenary session the following day. The approval of these appointments is significant as it shapes the leadership within the TCE-PB, which plays a crucial role in overseeing the state's financial accountability and transparency.

Following this legislative action, the approved names will be forwarded to Paraíba's governor, João Azevêdo, who holds the responsibility of final appointment. These changes at the TCE-PB may affect ongoing and future financial audits and the overall management of public resources in Paraíba, highlighting the important interplay between the legislative and executive branches in the state.
