Rep. As a result of this experience, Houchin is taking legislative action to help others facing similar challenges. She is advocating for the Providing Opportunities for Individuals in Need of Treatment and Support (POINTS) Act, a bipartisan initiative that emphasizes the importance of addressing gambling addiction in the United States.

The POINTS Act is designed to utilize existing excise tax revenue to provide grants to states, jurisdictions, and even Indian tribes to establish educational programs and training aimed at preventing and treating gambling addiction. Houchin believes that the initiative could play a crucial role in supporting families who are struggling with the consequences of gambling addiction, helping them to seek treatment before financial issues escalate.

In addition to its focus on prevention and intervention, the POINTS Act also represents a rare instance of bipartisan cooperation in Congress, being co-led by Democratic Rep. Andrea Salinas from Oregon.
