What the new Bombonera will be like

Boca Juniors plans a comprehensive reform to increase the stadium's capacity to 80,000 spectators.

Boca Juniors is set to embark on a comprehensive renovation of their Ribera stadium starting in June, aiming to boost its total capacity. Led by Juan Román Riquelme, this technical project intends to address the high demand from fans without leaving their historic site. The renovation will occur in two successive phases, allowing the team to continue playing at home during the first stage of construction.

In the initial technical phase, the club aims to increase the seating from 57,000 to 67,000, primarily by constructing a fourth tier on top of the existing stands, which will add an additional 6,000 seats in the premium section. Moreover, there are plans to remove seats from sector K to create more space, turning that area into a standing section for fans. This strategy illustrates Boca Juniors' commitment to enhancing the fan experience while maintaining the cultural significance of their storied venue.

As the reforms progress, this project not only seeks to expand the capacity of the stadium but also reflects Boca Juniors' broader ambitions in the football landscape, especially considering the growing interest in football attendance in Argentina. The successful completion of these renovations could position Boca Juniors as a leader among football clubs in terms of stadium capacity and fan engagement, ultimately benefiting their identity and economic viability.
