Under pressure from Chinese companies, Renault plans half of sales in electric or hybrid cars by 2030
Renault aims for half of its sales to come from electric or hybrid vehicles by 2030, driven by increasing competition from Chinese manufacturers.
Renault has announced a significant strategy called 'futuREady,' aiming to have half of its vehicle sales come from outside Europe by 2030, with a strong emphasis on electric and hybrid models. The company plans to sell 2 million vehicles by the end of the decade, adapting to a rapidly changing automotive landscape influenced by low-cost Chinese competitors like BYD and Chery, as well as traditional rivals such as Stellantis, which owns brands like Fiat and Jeep.
In Brazil, Renault has faced a challenging market, losing nearly half of its market share since the pandemic. In 2019, Renault held 9% of the market for new vehicles, but this has fallen to just 5.1%, indicating a steep decline of 43% over the recent years. This drop highlights the intensifying competition within the auto industry, particularly from emerging global players that offer vehicles at lower prices.
The company's plans include the launch of the hybrid Renault Koleos in 2026 as part of its electrification strategy. This effort is aimed not only at boosting sales but also at regaining a competitive foothold in the Brazilian market, which is crucial for the company to withstand the pressure from both local and international competitors in the electric vehicle domain.
