The altercation occurred with just over a minute left in the second period, and while Wright left the ice seemingly in pain, he was able to return for the third period. Sportscaster Jani Alkio highlighted that Björkqvist’s body language suggested he was aware of the call he would face following the referee's review. After the video review of the incident, Björkqvist was assessed a significant penalty of 5 minutes for the infraction, along with an additional 20 minutes for misconduct. Despite the incident, Ilves went on to secure a 3-1 victory over HPK, with Erik Borg netting the winning goal in the final period. This win positions Ilves fifth in the league standings, closely vying for a spot in the top four which would grant them direct access to the quarterfinals, just one point behind JYP but having played one more game.
