Amapá Police Arrest Suspect in 'Fake Ticket' Scam Affecting Over 200 Victims and Earning R$ 1 Million
Police in Amapá have apprehended a man responsible for a fraudulent scheme that tricked over 200 consumers into paying false energy bills.
The Civil Police of Amapá executed Operation Ghost Ticket on Monday, leading to the preventive arrest of a man in Goiânia, accused of creating and managing fake websites mimicking the state's energy company. This fraudulent scheme victimized more than 200 individuals and resulted in financial damages exceeding R$ 1 million by tricking consumers into paying fraudulent tickets on these fake sites.
According to delegate Breno Esteves, who heads the Cyber Crimes Division, the investigation revealed critical information that allowed authorities to track the suspect's assets and implement judicial orders effectively. The operation not only led to the arrest but also resulted in the blocking of assets and funds exceeding R$ 1 million, indicating the scale of the operation and how extensively it affected local citizens.
Esteves emphasized the importance of this investigation, highlighting that such schemes directly impact hundreds of consumers and create significant financial losses for the community. The police's success in identifying and capturing the suspect points to a focused effort to safeguard citizens from cyber frauds and demonstrates the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces in combating online scams.
