Reports of UFO sightings in Canada jumped last year. What’s going on?

The 2025 Canadian UFO Survey reports a surge in UFO sightings, reaching the highest levels since the pandemic, with 1,052 sightings but falling short of the 2020 total.

The 2025 edition of the Canadian UFO Survey, released recently, indicates a significant uptick in reported UFO sightings across Canada, marking the highest level since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The report noted that 1,052 UFO reports were documented in 2025, a notable increase from the previous year's total of 1,008. However, this figure is still below the peak observed in 2020 when 1,243 sightings were recorded, highlighting a fluctuating trend in public interest or awareness of unidentified flying objects. Overall, the number of reports has steadily increased from just 570 in 2023, reflecting a growing phenomenon or perhaps increased willingness to report such sightings.

In the context of these findings, it was noted that 3.42 percent of the 2025 sightings remain classified as “unexplained,” suggesting that there are still many mysteries surrounding these occurrences. A key expert on the survey, Rutkowski, pointed out that the belief in UFOs transcends demographics, with one in ten Canadians expressing confidence that they have witnessed a UFO. This widespread belief underlines a fascinating cultural aspect where the idea of UFOs resonates deeply among various communities across the country.

The results of the 2025 survey could have broader implications, igniting further discussions on extraterrestrial life and governmental transparency in investigations around unidentified aerial phenomena. As the interest in UFOs evolves, it may lead to more scientific studies and potentially deeper investigations into the nature of these sightings, further blurring the lines between science and folklore in public discourse.
