The National Institute of Meteorology in Brazil has issued a red warning for heavy rainfall expected to impact parts of São Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Minas Gerais.

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has officially declared a red warning due to anticipated intense rainfall that is expected to hit regions in São Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Minas Gerais on the upcoming Wednesday, November 11. This warning indicates serious conditions, with rainfall exceeding 60 millimeters per hour or over 100 millimeters within a single day, which are deemed to pose significant risks and disturbances.

The red alert, classified as the highest level on Inmet's warning scale, is set to commence at midnight and will remain active until 11:59 PM on the same day. Affected areas include various regions in the interior of São Paulo, specific areas in Mato Grosso do Sul, and the Triângulo Mineiro and Alto Paranaíba regions in Minas Gerais. Major cities such as Campinas, Piracicaba, Bauru, Ribeirão Preto, Araçatuba, and Marília are among those included in the warning.

Inmet's warning system comprises four color-coded levels to indicate the severity of the weather, ranging from yellow (potential danger) to red (great danger). The current red status underlines the urgency for residents in the affected regions to prepare for potential emergencies due to the extreme weather conditions, highlighting the importance of vigilance and safety measures as heavy rain can lead to flooding and other hazards.
