Theo Kolehmainen was shocked - revelation of Palander and Valavuori's night
Finnish MMA fighter Theo Kolehmainen suffered a knee injury during training, initially fearing serious damage but ultimately learning he only sustained a ligament tear.
Theo Kolehmainen, a 25-year-old mixed martial artist from Espoo, experienced a terrifying moment during training when he injured his knee while engaging in a Thai clinch with a larger Muay Thai opponent. The injury, described as a disturbing crack, initially led him to believe that his knee could have been dislocated, causing him to avoid looking at it for several minutes. Upon inspection, he found his knee swollen but not out of place, prompting concern about a potential tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
Medical evaluations revealed that Kolehmainen had not suffered an ACL tear but rather a rupture of the collateral ligament, a less severe injury that left him relieved despite the painful incident. The injury stemmed from his kneecap being displaced rather than a complete tear of the supporting ligaments. He was fitted with a large knee brace and scheduled for another MRI in the upcoming week to assess the situation further.
While Kolehmainen has begun a rehabilitation program focused on basic movements, stretches, and alternating hot and cold therapies, he remains optimistic about a potential quick recovery without the need for surgery. As he progresses through rehabilitation, he expresses commitment to returning to form, which underscores the importance of effective recovery methods in sports injuries, especially in high-contact disciplines like mixed martial arts.
