The proposed negotiations, which would be mediated by the U.S., come after two previous trilateral discussions failed to achieve a breakthrough in this prolonged conflict, marking Europe’s worst military crisis since World War II, which began with Russia's invasion in 2022. Although the talks were initially set to take place last week in the United Arab Emirates, Zelensky confirmed that they were postponed by the U.S. to next week due to scheduling issues.
