Camp Nou obtains the license to host matches with 62,000 spectators
Barcelona's Camp Nou has received a license to increase its capacity to 62,000 spectators for upcoming matches.
The Barcelona City Council granted a first occupancy license on March 10 for the Spotify Camp Nou to host matches with an increased attendance capacity of 62,000 spectators. This decision allows the stadium to accommodate an additional 17,000 spectators from its previous provisional capacity of 45,000 seats. The authorization covers two sections in the north end of the stadium and adds to previously issued licenses for other sections that include various stands, collectively facilitating the ongoing stadium renovations.
The newly granted license will come into effect for the upcoming La Liga match against Sevilla on March 15, which is notable not only for the game but also for the presidential elections of the club taking place on the same day. This license represents a significant milestone for the stadium's renovation project, which aims to expand the total seating capacity to 105,000 once all construction phases are completed, enhancing its status as one of the largest football venues in the world.
As the renovations progress, it highlights Barcelona's commitment to improving its sporting infrastructure and providing a modern experience for fans. The Camp Nou has been a historic site for both football and the community, and these changes are likely to have a positive impact on team support, local economy, and the overall matchday experience for visitors.
