The renovated Occupation Museum needs to strengthen façade panels; a new procurement is announced
The Occupation Museum in Latvia is set to enhance its façade panel support system to ensure long-term durability and safety after issues were noted shortly after its opening.
Jeļena Gavrilova, a board member of VNĪ, announced the decision to improve the support system for the façade of the Occupation Museum to ensure the building's sustainability and safety in the long term, including during the warranty period. Plans include the dismantling and re-securing of façade panels with an enhanced fastening system, and the museum will continue its operations throughout the works.
In parallel with the procurement process, construction company SIA 'Skonto būve,' responsible for the museum's reconstruction and the construction of the annex 'House of the Future,' is independently organizing a laboratory investigation in Poland with its own funds to examine the potential causes of changes in material adhesion. The results of this expertise will be utilized for future decision-making and an objective assessment of the situation, according to VNĪ.
The Occupation Museum and its annex were put into operation in the summer of 2021. However, shortly after its opening, it was observed that parts of the annex's wall were wet during rainy and humid weather, prompting the need for these enhancements and investigations to address the issues.
