Throughout the first round, Samurai Japan showcased powerful performances, starting with a decisive 13-0 victory over Taiwan, where standout players included Shohei Ohtani and Sosuke Genda, demonstrating both offensive and defensive strength. Following that, an intense match against South Korea saw Japan rally back from an early deficit to win 8-6, thanks to key hits from several players, and a solid showing from their relief pitchers, including Yuki Matsumoto.
Japan continued their strong showing with a narrow 4-3 win against Australia, highlighted by a crucial two-run homer by Masataka Yoshida that turned the game in their favor.
