New study: Warming is almost twice as fast

A new study reveals that global warming has accelerated significantly since 2015, nearly doubling the rate of temperature increase.

According to a new study published by researchers from the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, planetary warming has accelerated nearly twice the pace since 2015 compared to the previous decades. The report highlights that if current warming trends continue, the global mean temperature is projected to breach the 1.5-degree limit set by the Paris Agreement before 2030, posing significant environmental challenges.

The research indicates that between 1970 and 2015, global temperature rose by approximately 0.2 degrees per decade. However, the study reveals that since 2015, the rate has increased to about 0.35 degrees per decade. This drastic change signifies an urgent need for more aggressive measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to mitigate the impending dangers associated with global warming.

Stefan Rahmstorf, the lead author of the study, emphasized the critical nature of the findings, stating that the data shows a statistical confidence greater than 98% in the acceleration of global warming since 2015 across all datasets analyzed. This alarming trend calls for immediate action from governments and policy-makers worldwide to address and counter climate change effectively.
