Mother of councilman who died after aesthetic procedure with PMMA fell ill a week after application, family says
Isabel Cristina Oyama Jacinto Gonzaga died after experiencing complications following a PMMA aesthetic procedure in Goiânia, Brazil.
Isabel Cristina Oyama Jacinto Gonzaga, a 59-year-old businesswoman, tragically passed away after undergoing an aesthetic procedure using PMMA at a clinic in Goiânia. Her family reported that she began feeling pain approximately a week after the procedure, which was performed on February 10. Isabel was the mother of councilman Júnior Gonzaga, who expressed deep sorrow over his mother's sudden demise.
After the initial procedure at the Instituto Longevidade, Isabel reportedly returned to the clinic three times to address complications, including the removal of a seroma, which is a fluid collection that can occur during inflammation. The medical conditions following the procedure were concerning enough for her husband, Carlos Alberto Gonzaga, to accompany her during her last clinic visit on March 3. He indicated that the clinic is currently reviewing the actions of the attending physician, Eline Corrêa Bandeira, regarding Isabel's treatment and post-operative care.
Isabel's death raises significant concerns about the safety and oversight of cosmetic procedures, especially those involving substances like PMMA, which can have serious side effects. With increasing popularity, there is a pressing need for stricter regulations and public awareness surrounding potential risks, as this incident underscores the importance of rigorous post-operative monitoring and care for patients undergoing aesthetic surgeries.
