23 Omaksi Houses by Lakea Put Up for Sale

A total of 23 properties associated with the bankrupt Lakea are being put up for sale, which includes rental agreements that allow residents to eventually claim ownership.

The bankruptcy process involving Lakea's apartment buildings has commenced with the announcement of 23 properties being offered for sale. These properties, owned by housing companies, include rights to the real estate and the buildings on them, but do not include shares of the housing companies themselves. The properties fall under what are known as 'Omaksi contracts', which permitted residents to live in the units as renters while concurrently making payments toward eventual ownership.

The homes for sale are located in several Finnish cities, including Jyväskylä, Kuopio, Riihimäki, Vaasa, Seinäjoki, Turku, Espoo, Vantaa, Järvenpää, and Oulu. The total number of apartments exceeds 1,000, offering a rental space of approximately 50,000 square meters. The bankruptcy estate has announced that these properties will be sold free of secured debts, in collaboration with financing institutions that hold the claims on them, ensuring a more streamlined selling process.

The situation concerning properties developed by Lakea has deteriorated significantly over the past year, leading to the bankruptcy proceedings. The introduction of new lease agreements by the bankruptcy estate offers a crucial path forward for both the estate and the residents currently involved in these contracts, as they may now have the opportunity to secure their housing situation amidst the uncertainty stemming from the bankruptcy.
