Tänak: There is definitely a solution to Hyundai's worries
World Rally Champion Ott Tänak believes that solutions exist for Hyundai's struggles in the current season, and the team needs to find them.
Ott Tänak, the 2019 World Rally Champion, shared his thoughts on Hyundai's poor start to the season in the World Rally Championship. He acknowledged that while the team has yet to reach the podium in the first two events of the season, solutions to their issues certainly exist, but they must be proactively sought out by the team. With Hyundai already trailing more than 50 points behind Toyota in the manufacturers' standings, the pressure is mounting for the team to turn around their fortunes.
Both Thierry Neuville and Adrien Fourmaux, members of the Hyundai team, have also expressed their dissatisfaction with the team's performance, highlighting a collective frustration. Neuville, who won the World Championship two years ago, and Fourmaux have made comments pointing to their struggles in achieving wins this season. Last year, Hyundai was dominant up until the end of the season, but missed out on the championship title to Toyota, who won 11 out of 14 events, indicating a significant shift in competitiveness this year.
Tänak emphasized the importance of finding solutions, suggesting that the team needs to analyze their challenges effectively. He expressed sadness over the current situation, particularly for teammate Neuville, who has not been able to win recently. The ongoing struggles of Hyundai underline a critical phase in the season where strategic adjustments and improvements are necessary to regain their competitive edge against rivals like Toyota.
