EKKM celebrates its 20th season with a jubilee print and exhibition
The Eesti Kaasaegse Kunsti Muuseum is celebrating its 20th anniversary with the opening of three exhibitions and the launch of a commemorative publication.
The Eesti Kaasaegse Kunsti Muuseum (EKKM) is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, marking two decades of promoting contemporary art in Estonia. To commemorate this milestone, the museum has planned the launch of three exhibitions and a special publication dedicated to the anniversary. This initiative reflects EKKM's commitment to the contemporary art scene and its influence in the region.
As a highlight of the anniversary season, the Köler Prize is being reinstated after a hiatus since its last edition in 2018. Founded by EKKM in 2011, the Köler Prize aims to promote contemporary art and recognize standout artists in the local art community. The upcoming nominees' exhibition, set to open in April, will showcase new works by five Estonian artists, including Anna Mari Liivrand, Darja Popolitova, Hanna Samoson, Keiu Maasik, and Taavi Suisalu. An international jury will select the main award winner, while museum visitors will have the opportunity to vote for the public prize recipient.
The Köler Prize continues to gain support, with the main prize of €15,000 sponsored by indie video game studio ZA/UM and a public award of €5,000 provided by law firm COBALT. This reinstatement signifies not only a celebration of EKKM's legacy but also encourages engagement and recognition of artists in Estonia's vibrant contemporary art landscape.
