Greece's inflation rate increased to 2.7% in February, driven largely by a notable rise in beef prices, while olive oil prices fell significantly.

In February, Greece experienced a rise in inflation to 2.7%, up from 2.5% in January, as reported by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT). The increase in inflation was significantly influenced by the surge in beef prices, which rose by 25.6%, placing it at the top of the list of food items that saw the largest annual gains. Other notable increases included chocolates and products containing chocolate rising by 16.7%, coffee up by 15%, fruits by 13.5%, and lamb-goat increasing by 12.1%. Interestingly, while several food items faced price hikes, olive oil saw a considerable price drop of 27.4%.

In addition to food costs, energy prices showed a mixed trend. Electricity saw a modest increase of 3%, contrasting sharply with natural gas, which experienced a significant decrease of 19.3%, and heating oil, which declined by 7.7%. These statistics reflect ongoing changes in consumer prices across Greece as the country continues to navigate economic challenges.
