The organization "Ogle" implements experience-based support program for the grieving in Latvia
The organization "Ogle" in Latvia launches a new support program called "Līdzcilvēks" aimed at helping people who have lost loved ones to suicide by training peers to provide support.
The Latvian organization "Ogle" has initiated a peer support program named "Līdzcilvēks" for individuals who have experienced the loss of a loved one through suicide. This program encourages those who have gone through similar grief to become support persons after undergoing specific training. The aim is to create a supportive community where those grieving can find understanding and companionship from others who truly comprehend their pain.
Developed in collaboration with the Norwegian organization "Leve", which has 27 years of experience in suicide prevention and support, the program is backed by the Society Integration Foundation. Peer support serves as a vital bridge for individuals struggling with profound sorrow before they reach out to professionals for help. The organization's representatives emphasize how critical it is for grieving individuals to find someone who can relate to their experience, often being the first step towards healing.
A significant challenge faced by many bereaved individuals is the reluctance to seek professional help immediately following a loved one's suicide. The implementation of the "Līdzcilvēks" program aims to address this gap by providing immediate, relatable support, ensuring that individuals do not feel isolated in their grief. Through this initiative, "Ogle" hopes to foster a supportive environment that paves the way for individuals to eventually pursue therapeutic options when they are ready.
