Three new features in mCitizen. It's about ID cards and passports

The mCitizen app now allows users to report and request the invalidation of ID cards in cases of data theft.

In Poland, the mCitizen application has introduced new features that allow users to submit requests for invalidating their identity documents in the event of data theft or unauthorized use. Previously, users could only request an invalidation due to loss or damage to their ID cards. Now, if someone has taken out a loan under their name using stolen ID details, they can promptly report this through the application, along with relevant police documentation. The mCitizen app enables a quick communication process to the appropriate authorities who will decide on the invalidation of the ID card.

Users should be aware that the process of invalidating their ID is irreversible; hence it is advised that if there is a possibility of recovering the lost document, they should opt for a temporary suspension instead. This temporary suspension allows users to revert the action within 14 days, thus maintaining access to their identity credentials until they are sure that the document cannot be recovered. Additionally, the app now also facilitates the blocking of the PESEL number of the victim affected by the fraud, enhancing their security in these unfortunate circumstances.

This update to the mCitizen app is a crucial step in enhancing the digital capabilities of Polish citizens in safeguarding their identities. By providing users with streamlined procedures to act quickly against identity theft, the government is addressing a growing concern in the digital age where such threats are becoming more prevalent. This feature not only empowers citizens but also reflects the government's commitment to modernizing public services through technology.
