The South China Morning Post reports that China has developed a new urban police anti-drone swarm microwave defense system utilizing High-Power Microwave (HPM) technology, making it more accessible for public security applications. This advancement follows a trend of leveraging microwave systems to address the growing security concerns associated with drone usage in urban environments, where drones are increasingly seen as tools for potential threats.

Developed by the state-owned 081 Electronics Group, this system integrates radar, electro-optical, and radio detection technologies with a sophisticated flat-panel antenna that can be elevated and rotated, enabling it to effectively target and neutralize incoming drones. The system boasts the capability to perform a 'soft kill' by jamming signals or opting for a 'hard kill' by using high-power microwaves that can heat and destroy a drone's internal components instantly, demonstrating its lethal efficiency against airborne threats.

As drone incidents continue to rise, particularly in urban settings, the deployment of this technology serves as a strategic move by Chinese authorities to safeguard public security.
