In Vietnam, remote work is encouraged for fuel savings

Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade has recommended remote work to reduce energy resource consumption amidst rising fuel prices.

Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade has issued recommendations aimed at decreasing energy resource consumption in the country. Among these suggestions is the encouragement for companies to promote working from home to minimize the necessity for travel and transportation. This initiative comes as Vietnam faces one of the most severe energy crises among nations, largely due to its dependence on oil supplies from Middle Eastern countries.

The crisis is underscored by significant price increases in fuels, with data from the leading fuel trader in Vietnam indicating a 32% rise in gasoline prices and a 56% increase in diesel prices since late February. This sharp escalation in fuel costs has led to long queues of vehicles and motorcycles at gas stations in the capital city of Hanoi, highlighting the immediate impact on everyday citizens and transport logistics.

In response to the growing crisis, the Vietnamese government has taken measures to alleviate the situation by deciding to remove import duties on gasoline until the end of April. This step aims to stabilize fuel prices and ensure availability for consumers, as the government seeks to mitigate further economic strain caused by the escalating energy costs.
