Gasoline: The price of unleaded fuel is speeding towards 2 euros
The price of unleaded gasoline is rapidly approaching 2 euros per liter due to significant increases in refinery prices.
In Greece, unleaded gasoline (95 octane) and diesel fuel prices are on a fast track to reach 2 euros per liter following recent significant increases from refineries. Just yesterday, even before the price of Brent crude oil surpassed the 100 dollar mark per barrel, refineries had already increased the cost of unleaded gasoline by 25 euros per thousand liters compared to the previous Friday. Diesel prices experienced an even larger spike, with an increase of 53 euros per thousand liters added to the wholesale price, which translates to a 2.7-cent increase for gasoline and a 5.3-euro increase for diesel fuel.
The latest refinery pricing for unleaded gasoline was set at 1,352 euros per thousand liters, up from 1,327 euros last Friday, while diesel prices rose to 1,336 euros per thousand liters from 1,283 euros. This price surge follows the ongoing conflict in the Middle East that has contributed to rising fuel costs, with an estimated total increase of 20 cents observed in gasoline prices since the war began. With these increases, consumers may expect further financial strain as fuel prices continue to rise sharply, impacting not only transportation costs but also broader economic conditions.
