Missile attacks to continue, US talks ‘not on agenda’, says Iran

Iran's foreign minister declared that talks with the US are no longer on their agenda amid ongoing missile attacks in retaliation for recent US-Israeli strikes.

Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, announced that discussions with the United States are not a priority for Iran as they enter the eleventh day of war. He expressed a sense of disillusionment regarding previous negotiations, reflecting on a ‘very bitter experience’ Iran had in its past dealings with the US. This statement comes in the wake of recent strikes by the US and Israel which resulted in the death of Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The conflict escalated significantly after a series of coordinated attacks by the US and Israel against Iranian targets, set against the backdrop of intended diplomatic discussions that were abruptly interrupted by the military actions. Just days before these attacks, Omani mediators had reported substantial progress in negotiations aimed at easing tensions in the region. The latest developments have squashed any hopes of renewed talks, shifting the focus to military responses.

In retaliation for the strikes, Iran has launched drone and missile attacks targeting both Israeli and US interests in the region, indicating a significant escalation in hostilities. This situation poses a serious threat to shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, critical for global oil transportation, raising concerns about potential disruptions in the oil supply chain that could have far-reaching economic implications worldwide.
