Here Sweden is best and worst at swimming

A survey indicates that while 97% of respondents in Sweden claim they can swim, only 81% meet the defined standard of swimming 200 meters, including 50 meters on their back.

A recent survey reveals that 97% of respondents in Sweden assert they can swim, yet when assessed against the formal criterion of swimming 200 meters, with 50 meters on their back, only 81% qualify as proficient swimmers. This disparity raises concerns about the accuracy of self-assessment when it comes to swimming skills.

Among the regions, Uppsala län tops the chart with 90% of respondents declaring they can swim, followed closely by Västra Götaland at 87%. In contrast, the lowest percentages are reported in Jämtlands län, where only 70% of surveyed individuals are capable swimmers, and Gotland with 74% confirming their swimming ability. The variation in swimming proficiency highlights the geographical disparities in swimming education and access to training resources across Sweden.

The survey, conducted by Verian, utilized responses from a random sampling of 3,300 individuals from the Sifopanelen, emphasizing the methodological rigor in gathering these insights. Understanding these statistics is crucial for local governments and organizations in addressing swimming education and potentially implementing programs to improve swimming skills, particularly in areas lagging behind.
