The Green Party in Sweden has put forward an ambitious plan to promote the electrification of vehicles, proposing a targeted electric car offensive aimed at making electric vehicles accessible to all households. The party's leaders emphasized that support would be focused on providing financial assistance to individuals, particularly those with the lowest incomes, to facilitate the transition from gasoline or diesel cars to electric alternatives.

Key features of the proposal include subsidies for both the purchase and leasing of electric vehicles, alongside the introduction of a new electric car bonus. Daniel Helldén, one of the party leaders, conveyed that individuals could lease an electric car for approximately 1,500 Swedish Kronor per month. Furthermore, the bonus would primarily benefit households located outside major urban areas and would offer the largest incentives for the least expensive electric vehicles, thus aiming to broaden the adoption of eco-friendly transportation options across diverse socio-economic groups.

In addition to vehicle subsidies, the Green Party suggests a reduction in electricity taxes to encourage electric vehicle charging and has proposed a pause on certain electricity tariffs that could hinder accessibility. The energy minister, Ebba Busch, has indicated that these tariffs, which are set to become mandatory by 2027, might be reconsidered, highlighting a potential shift in policy aimed at supporting the green transition in the automotive sector. This initiative reflects a growing political commitment in Sweden to address climate change and promote sustainable practices within everyday transportation.
