The border between Jalisco and Zacatecas is heating up: police attacked with narco-drones
The border region between Jalisco and Zacatecas is facing an intensifying wave of violence, marked by police being attacked with narco-drones.
The border region between Jalisco and Zacatecas continues to experience relentless violence amid escalating tensions following the death of notorious drug lord Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as 'El Mencho'. The area has become a hotspot for violent activities, particularly with attacks directed at law enforcement agencies. A recent incident occurred in the municipality of Colotlán, where police were targeted by narco-drones while conducting security operations in La Hiedrita community, signaling the aggressive tactics employed by drug cartels in the region.
In the attack, gunfire exchanged between police and suspected hitmen resulted in injuries to one female officer, who is now recovering in a hospital and is reported to be out of danger. This incident highlights the dangers that law enforcement personnel face in regions heavily influenced by drug cartels, such as the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), which has been particularly active following the death of its leader, 'El Mencho', on February 22.
In response to the situation, a special operation involving the National Guard and an aerotactical team known as Titán was deployed to restore order in the area. Authorities have since assured the public that control of the situation has been regained and that safety has been secured by military forces. However, the ongoing violence reflects the precarious security situation in Mexico, particularly in states like Jalisco and Zacatecas, which are often at the center of clashes between competing drug factions.
