J. Olekas supports the new Assisted Reproductive Technology project: we must give women the opportunity

J. Olekas advocates for improvements in Lithuania's assisted reproductive technology law to address demographic challenges and support women facing health problems.

J. Olekas, speaking on 'Žinių radijas', emphasized the importance of recent constitutional court interpretations and Lithuania's pressing demographic issues as key arguments for supporting the new assisted reproductive technology (ART) amendments. He stated that the proposed measures by the Ministry of Health could help increase Lithuania's birth rate by approximately 500 new citizens, addressing the country’s declining population caused by various health issues.

Olekas highlighted that the currently proposed changes would enable couples, including those in partnerships, to access assisted reproduction services, marking a significant shift in reproductive rights in Lithuania. He stressed that every newborn that could be helped by modern medical solutions is critical for the future of the nation, especially in light of current demographic pressures. The proposed adjustments aim to alleviate obstacles that prevent women with health problems from becoming mothers.

By advocating for these changes, Olekas calls for society to acknowledge the right of women to receive assistance in childbirth, particularly those facing health challenges. This initiative not only aims to boost the birth rate but also to empower women and families in their reproductive journeys, signalling a shift towards more progressive health care policies in Lithuania.
