Centrists and the Democratic Party of Japan Submit Special Bond Bill Limiting Deficit Bond Issuance to One Year
Centrists and the Democratic Party of Japan have jointly submitted a bill to limit the issuance of deficit bonds to just one year for the fiscal year 2026.
On the 10th, the Centrist Reform Union and the Democratic Party of Japan presented a joint proposal in the House of Representatives for a special deficit bond bill that would restrict the issuance of deficit bonds to one year only for the fiscal year 2026. This initiative serves as a counter-proposal to the government's plan which allows bond issuance over five years from fiscal 2026 to fiscal 2030. The purpose of this restrictive measure aims to enable tighter financial oversight and more rigorous checks on fiscal revenue and expenditure, as stated by Ishisa Shinichi, a member of the House of Representatives from the Centrist party, who emphasized that the bill is designed to enhance parliamentary accountability on fiscal matters annually.
