A fire occurred shortly after midnight in an excavation machine within the Kvitsøy section of the Rogfast underwater tunnel currently under construction. Workers present at the scene promptly evacuated the tunnel, ensuring that no injuries were reported. The fire was attributed to an electrical motor flame in a vehicle inside the tunnel. The operator of the machine activated its fire suppression system, which was effective in preventing the situation from escalating into a larger fire. The operation chief, Dag Steinkopf from the Sør-Vest police district, mentioned that smoke from the suppression system triggered the evacuation, underscoring the importance of immediate safety protocols in construction environments.

The affected excavation machine is known as a "pig machine," designed for clearing the walls and ceiling of the tunnel after a dynamite detonation. This incident highlights the inherent risks associated with large-scale construction projects, emphasizing the necessity of safety measures to quickly address emergencies and protect workers.
