Chaitra Navratri - Hindu New Year will start soon, this conjunction will occur after 89 years
The Chaitra Navratri festival will commence on March 19, 2026, coinciding with the Hindu New Year, which occurs after a gap of 89 years and will involve specific astrological events.
Chaitra Navratri 2026 is set to start on March 19 and will last until March 27, culminating in the celebration of Ram Navami. This year, unique circumstances will see the Hindu New Year coincide with Navratri, an event occurring for the first time in 89 years. According to astrological calculations, important traditions tied to these observances are highlighted, indicating a significant year ahead for Hindu devotees.
Following ancient beliefs, the Hindu New Year begins on the first day of Chaitra Shukla Paksha, which also marks the commencement of the Vikram Samvat calendar. However, this year, due to the waning of the Pratipada Tithi, the new Samvat will commence directly from the Dvitiya Tithi. The coming year will be known as the Raudra Samvatsar, with the new Vikram Samvat being 2083 and the Shaka Samvat being 1948, representing an important transition in the Hindu calendar.
The unique aspect of this year's festival is that Navratri will begin before the new year, starting in the previous year and leading up to a significant ritual where devotees will establish Kalash (pots) in their homes and temples. This period promises a divine atmosphere as worshipers celebrate the nine forms of Goddess Durga, marking a time of spiritual significance and community festivities across India.
