Han Dong-hoon: The People Power Party should have opposed the 'martial law advocacy and election fraud conspiracy theory'
Former representative Han Dong-hoon criticized the People Power Party for its recent resolution, stating it should have clearly opposed martial law advocacy and election fraud conspiracy theories.
On October 10, former People Power Party representative Han Dong-hoon made comments regarding the party's recent resolution against the political return of former President Yoon Seok-youl. Speaking on KBS radio, he expressed that while the resolution took the right direction, it was overdue. He emphasized that the party should have proactively condemned martial law advocacy and conspiracy theories surrounding election fraud, rather than focusing on an impossible political return of Yoon, who is currently imprisoned following a life sentence.
Han further elaborated on the necessary actions expected from the People Power Party by asserting that the party's sincerity would be judged based on their commitment to opposing the aforementioned issues. He argued against the purging politics led by pro-Yoon factions and urged for a normalization of the party by replacing those responsible for such tactics. This follows demands for the resignation of the Ethics Committee chair, Yoon Min-woo, after the party faced criticism for its internal disciplinary actions, which have only intensified the party's current crisis.
Additionally, calls from within the party have emerged for concrete actions to match the spirit of the resolution. Representative Lee Seong-gwon of the 'Alternatives and Future' faction stated that the determination to sever ties with Yoon's supporters should include personnel changes to reflect true commitment. Similarly, representative Jeong Seong-guk stressed that if the resolution does not lead to further actions that align with its sentiments, its significance would diminish. This internal discourse highlights ongoing tensions and the urgent need for clarity within the party regarding its stance and future direction.
