"Visiting Protection Facilities"... Gyeonggi-do Supports On-site Veterinary Services for Abandoned Animals

Gyeonggi-do has launched a new initiative where veterinarians visit private animal protection facilities to provide medical care for abandoned animals.

A new initiative in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, allows veterinarians to conduct on-site medical assessments and treatments for abandoned animals at private animal protection facilities. This program, termed 'Visiting Animal Protection Facility Medical Support Project,' aims to address the health needs of animals in care facilities, many of which struggle to access professional veterinary services due to resource constraints.

From this month, the Gyeonggi-do government, in collaboration with the Gyeonggi Veterinary Medical Association, plans to carry out a total of 15 medical visits to these facilities by December. During these visits, various veterinary services will be provided, including health check-ups, vaccinations, treatments, and neutering surgeries, ensuring that the animals receive essential medical attention.

The project is funded by a community participation budget totaling 50 million KRW and marks the first implementation based on suggestions from local residents. Gyeonggi-do intends to evaluate the outcomes of this initiative to consider its continuation in the future. Local animal protection facilities wishing to participate can apply through the Gyeonggi Veterinary Medical Association until the 13th of this month, emphasizing the collaborative effort to enhance the welfare of vulnerable animals in the region.
