Street race brings together children with Down syndrome in SP

The DownRun Kids 2026 inclusive race will be held on March 21 in São Paulo to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day, featuring children between 7 to 12 years old participating in a 50-meter race.

On March 21, 2026, São Paulo will host the inclusive DownRun Kids event, marking World Down Syndrome Day. This unique race invites children aged 7 to 12 to participate in a 50-meter race at John Lennon Square in the Lapa district, celebrating the capabilities of children with Down syndrome. The event will feature multiple heats divided by age group and will run from 8 AM to 12 PM.

Aline Gonzaga, the organizer of DownRun Kids, emphasizes the objective of combining sports with the community of children who have Down syndrome. This event not only aims to foster inclusion and awareness but also to provide an opportunity for children to engage in physical activity in a supportive environment. Although registrations have closed for this year’s event, there are plans to hold more races throughout the year in various locations across São Paulo, expanding opportunities for participation.

The initiative underscores the importance of inclusion in sports and community events, promoting social interaction and understanding among children and their families. As such events gain popularity, they can significantly contribute to raising awareness about Down syndrome, ultimately helping foster a more inclusive society for individuals with disabilities.
