Kärsna: There is no need to worry about fuel shortages in Estonia
Tarmo Kärsna of Alexela assures that Estonia does not need to worry about fuel shortages unless all logistics routes are cut off.
In a recent interview, Tarmo Kärsna, the head of business development at Alexela, assured Estonians that there is currently no need to panic about potential fuel shortages in the country. He stated that the emergency fuel reserves in Estonia will only need to be utilized if all logistical routes are cut off. Despite the ongoing energy crisis, Kärsna emphasized that motor fuel supplies are secure for now and that there is sufficient stock to meet demand.
The discussion around energy supplies is particularly pressing considering the global context influenced by the war in Ukraine. Kärsna highlighted a significant difference in the current situation, noting that a substantial amount of LNG (liquefied natural gas) is affected and cannot exit the Strait of Hormuz, thereby contributing to a double energy crisis involving multiple energy carriers. This situation contrasts with previous crises where oil and diesel shortages primarily drove price increases due to sanctions.
Predicting the future of energy prices remains complex and volatile, as markets tend to react emotionally to news updates. Kärsna pointed out that fuel prices fluctuate significantly based on global events, creating uncertainty about the duration and escalation of the crisis. This unpredictability is the primary concern, as stakeholders and consumers alike brace themselves for potential shifts in the energy landscape based on news and market sentiment.
