Skiier fainted 43 kilometers before the finish – strange video spreads
Swedish skier Gabriel Strid collapsed during a long-distance skiing competition after pushing himself to the limit; despite the collapse, he continued racing even though he was far from the finish line.
In a remarkable incident during the Ski Classics race at Orsa Grönklitt, Swedish skier Gabriel Strid gave it his all, pushing himself beyond his limits until he collapsed onto the snow. This event occurred not far from the start of the race, at the seven-kilometer mark, leaving him with an exhausting 43 kilometers still to go. The commentators from SVT were astonished by Strid's decision to sprint at such an early stage, questioning if they had ever witnessed anything like it before.
Strid’s desperate attempt was explained by the nature of long-distance skiing competitions, which include sprint sections where athletes can earn points based on their times. Strid saw an opportunity to gain these sprint points, leading him to exert himself fully, but to qualify for those points, he ultimately needed to finish the race. After collapsing, Strid took a moment to recuperate and then bravely continued his journey down the track despite the overwhelming fatigue.
Despite his effort, Strid ended the 50-kilometer race in 47th place, finishing over 13 minutes behind the winner, fellow Swede Malte Jutterdahl. The incident has drawn attention due to its unusual nature, prompting discussions around the risks and strategies involved in competitive skiing, where athletes sometimes take extreme measures to secure points and recognition, even in the face of physical exhaustion.
