Did a competitor steal Porsche's design? Check the pictures and judge for yourself

SAIC has launched the SAIC Z7T, a new model heavily influenced by the design of the Porsche Taycan, in collaboration with Huawei.

SAIC, in partnership with Chinese electronics manufacturer Huawei, has unveiled the SAIC Z7T, a new model that appears to draw significant design inspiration from the Porsche Taycan. This vehicle is a station wagon variant of the previously released SAIC Z7 and is anticipated to enter the market soon. While detailed specifications for the car will be disclosed later in March, initial reports highlight that the Z7T is expected to feature advanced lighting technology similar to that of the Taycan, with anticipated laser solutions boasting 408 pixels.

Although the official pricing has yet to be confirmed, it is estimated that the SAIC Z7T will be priced between 250,000 and 350,000 yuan (approximately 31,200 to 43,770 euros). The vehicle will likely offer choices between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, along with battery packs of either 80 or 100 kilowatt-hours, providing buyers with options to suit their preferences. The unveiling of the Z7T raises questions about design originality in the automotive industry, particularly how influence from well-established designs, like the Taycan, can manifest in new products.

The SAIC Z7T's design similarities to the Porsche Taycan open discussions about intellectual property and design theft, especially in a competitive market like China, where automotive innovation is rapid and often controversial. As more details become public, particularly regarding performance and features, industry analysts and consumers alike will be keen to evaluate how the Z7T fares against established competitors like Porsche. The growing trend of collaborations between tech and automotive companies, represented by SAIC's partnership with Huawei, further underscores the evolving landscape of vehicle development.
