Investigating as "terrorism related to ISIS" the failed attack on the residence of Zohran Mamdani

The NYPD and FBI are investigating a failed bombing attempt at the residence of Mayor Zohran Mamdani as an act of terrorism linked to ISIS.

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are treating a recent explosive device incident outside Gracie Mansion, the official residence of Mayor Zohran Mamdani, as a terrorist act associated with the Islamic State (ISIS). Police Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch confirmed during a press briefing that the preliminary test results showed the explosives were not harmless devices or smoke bombs, but improvised explosive devices (IEDs) capable of causing serious injury or death.

During the briefing, Tisch detailed that one of the explosives tested positive for triacetone triperoxide (TATP), a dangerous and highly volatile homemade explosive. This revelation raises concerns about the potential threat posed by individuals or groups attempting to carry out violent acts under the banner of terrorism. The authorities are currently investigating the motivations behind the attack and other potential connections to extremist groups.

This incident comes amid a backdrop of tensions and protests that have been rising over the past weekend, drawing attention to issues surrounding public safety and security in New York City. As investigations continue, the NYPD and FBI are expected to provide updates on their findings, underscoring the seriousness of the situation and the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces in combating terrorism.
