Giovani Gomes de Souza, a 26-year-old farm caretaker, was arrested on Sunday, September 8, 2023, under suspicion of murdering 45-year-old businessman Gervasio Tadao Nagahama due to gambling debts. This information was revealed by the Civil Police during a press conference held on September 9. Nagahama was reported missing for six days before being found dead in a trench in the rural area of Pilar do Sul, São Paulo. The investigation, led by Delegate Rodrigo Ayres, revealed that Souza had sold 1,500 boxes of cereals without permission from Nagahama, pocketing R$ 10,000 in the process. When Nagahama discovered the theft, he demanded the money back, threatening to report Souza to the authorities if his demands were not met.
